Muharram 1445 Lecture Series with Dr Imranali Panjwani

 

Please prepare to join us for our signature Muharram lecture series, scheduled to start next month.

When: July 18–28; nightly from 7:30pm; Ashura program (Amaals) begins at 11:30am on 28 July

“Qur’anic parallels between the mission of Imam al-Husayn and Prophet Muhammad: The contemporary relevance of Surat al-Qalam.”

This is a 10-part series in which we will critically explore the exegesis of Surat al-Qalam (surah 68) to demonstrate the similarities between Imam al-Husayn’s (a.s) stand against immorality in Karbala and Prophet Muhammad’s (s.a.w) goal of moral reform in Makkah ad Madinah. The series will also comment on contemporary challenges, such as new age spirituality and technological challenges to our faith.

Lecture 6: Knowing when we are becoming immoral and Qur’anic examples of those who go astray
Lecture 7: The Prophet’s and al-Husayn’s barometer: Being God-conscious according to the Qur’an
Lecture 8: Are we just as Muslims? Theories of Justice in Islam
Lecture 9: The Prophet’s and al-Husayn’s attempts at stopping tribalism and division in society. Is our society today better or worse?
Lecture 10: Challenges today: If we are true to ourselves, would we stand by al-Husayn’s side if we were in Karbala?

About Dr Imranali Panjwani:

Dr. Imranali Panjwani is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford, UK. He is also the head and founder of Diverse Legal Consulting (www.diverselegal.com), a consultancy that specializes in country-expert reports for asylum seekers from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He obtained his PhD in Theology & Religious Studies from King’s College London and pursued legal studies at the University of Sheffield, University of Law and the University of Notre Dame, Sydney. He completed his Islamic seminary studies at Al-Mahdi Institute and post-doctoral research at Jam’iat al-Mustafa, Mashhad. His interests lie in exegesis of the Qur’an, Islamic and Western jurisprudence, human rights, mysticism and philosophy.
